Glico Truck

Last weekend I was walking around in Sannomiya when I came across this amazing Glico truck! (If you remember, we had a bizarre trip to the Glico factory a few weeks ago.)

I often stumble across interesting cars or trucks like this one in Japan, and it got me thinking of an article I recently found showing 40+ creatively designed food trucks in the states. Despite the trend really taking off in the US, I’ve never seen one in Michigan. Don’t you Michiganders think one would do well in Grand Rapids–especially during Art Prize? Chad and I have toyed with the idea of opening a curry pan truck.

Would you ever start a food truck? What kind of food trucks do you love in your area, or would you like to see?

  1. I’ve joked around with one of my co-workers that we’d start a pierogi truck together and we had fun coming up with different combinations of flavors we’d make, our favorite idea was a pulled-port pierogi, haha!
We have a food truck in a nearby city called El Gastronomo Vagabundo (how is that for a name?) and apparently it’s the first gourmet food truck in our area. I haven’t had the chance to try it out yet, but it’s on my to do list for this summer!

    1. Oh my gosh, pierogies! It’s been so long since I’ve had them, but I love them. (Another reason to be careful of gaining a hundred pounds when we move back!) I’ve thought about interesting combos for gyoza, or potstickers. What kind of food does El Gastronomo Vagabundo sell?

  2. i’ve seen a certain truck for sale for the last few months that i think would be perfect as a coffee truck. and i’m really surprised that there aren’t any food trucks in grand rapids (aside from the pizza vans that go to different breweries late at night). i think grand rapids is similar enough to other big cities in the states that food trucks would be able to make a living.
